WANT TO BECOME GREEK?

3) GET TO KNOW THE MEMBERS

Talk to current members about why they joined and allow them the chance to get to know you by attending their events and being attentive to their actions on campus. Make sure that this is an organization that you want to be associated with because joining is a life long commitment.

2) PLAN AHEAD ACADEMICALLY & FINANCIALLY

Joining a sorority or a fraternity is a lot of work. This means a lot of hard work, dedication, as well as dues & other miscellaneous costs. Make sure your time management skills are up to the test, because your first priority at school is to graduate and nothing should stand in the way.

4) EXERCISE STRICT DISCRETION

Let the members of the organization know that you are interested, not the entire campus. Members need to also know that you will keep internal business internal, not external. Also, sincerity, honesty, and respect for the organization are also important when talking with members.

1) DO YOUR RESEARCH

Get a full understanding of your options and do research on the characteristics and history of the NPHC sororities and fraternities, especially the one you are interested in. Assess your reasons for wanting to join and keep an open mind.

5) THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE ORGANIZATION

It's not enough to admire the history of the organization or to be enamored with famous members or members that you look. You need to know how your membership will take the organization even further in the work that it seeks to accomplish and the impact that it has in the community.

6) HAZING IS ILLEGAL

Hazing is the practice of various rituals and other activities involving harassment, abuse or humiliation used as a way of initiating a person into a group. Hazing of any kind is illegal
